Advanced Cancer Treatment Options

At Exeter Hospital's Michael & Jeanne Falzone Center for Cancer Care, patients have access to advanced cancer treatments using the latest technology and research. Our oncology team — including medical, surgical, and radiation specialists — works together to design a personalized treatment plan tailored to your diagnosis, health, and goals.

We offer a full range of therapies to treat cancer effectively while supporting your comfort and quality of life.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy uses medicines to destroy cancer cells or stop them from growing. It can be given through an IV, by injection, or in pill form. Our oncology pharmacists and nurses closely monitor each treatment to ensure safety and manage side effects effectively.

Oncology Pharmacy Support

Our on-site oncology pharmacy team reviews every medication order, prepares therapies according to national safety standards, and educates patients about what to expect during treatment.

Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy helps your body’s immune system recognize and attack cancer cells. This treatment may be used alone or with other therapies. Immunotherapy can help slow or stop cancer growth, prevent recurrence, and improve long-term outcomes for certain cancers.

Targeted Therapy

Targeted therapy focuses on specific genes, proteins, or tissue environments that contribute to cancer growth. These drugs are designed to block cancer cell development while minimizing damage to healthy cells. Genetic testing helps determine whether targeted therapy is an appropriate option for your type of cancer.

Radiation Therapy

In collaboration with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston, our radiation oncologists design precise treatment plans tailored to each patient. Using state-of-the-art equipment and advanced imaging techniques, they target tumors while protecting nearby healthy tissue.

Common radiation treatments include:

  • CT Simulation for accurate treatment mapping
  • Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) for precise targeting
  • Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) for advanced dose control
  • Partial Breast Irradiation when appropriate for breast cancer patients

Surgery

Surgery remains one of the most effective ways to diagnose, stage, and treat cancer. Depending on your diagnosis, you may have surgery alone or in combination with chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Our surgeons work closely with other oncology specialists to ensure your procedure is part of a coordinated, comprehensive care plan.

Supportive Cancer Care

Throughout treatment, our team focuses on managing side effects, relieving symptoms, and supporting emotional well-being. Services include nurse navigation, nutrition counseling, physical rehabilitation, and survivorship programs to help you recover and thrive after treatment.

More About Cancer Treatments

Oncology Pharmacy

Located within the Center for Cancer Care at Exeter Hospital is a pharmacy dedicated to providing all patients with safe and accurate chemotherapy, drug information regarding their therapy, and other information as needed. Pharmacists also review each patient's current medication history to optimize therapy. Patients are encouraged to seek information from the pharmacist regarding any questions that may arise during their course of treatment.

Pharmacists, in conjunction with physicians and nurses, review all orders for drugs to verify accuracy, then mix these products utilizing national standards. Verification of drug therapy is accomplished by reviewing each order against accepted treatment regimens. All pharmacists are licensed by the state board of Pharmacy of New Hampshire.

Oncology Pharmacists

Exeter Hospital has two board certified oncology pharmacists (BCOP), who are dedicated to the needs of patients at the hospital's Center for Cancer Care. This certification requires experience working in the oncology field as well as an extensive knowledge about scientific studies, clinical trials, and other related information specific to oncology needs. The exam process is so rigorous, there are only 8 board certified oncology pharmacists in the state of New Hampshire.

Radiation Oncology

In collaboration with BIDMC, the radiation oncologists at Exeter Hospital provide expert, personalized care for every patient receiving radiation therapy. They design and oversee each treatment plan, ensuring precision and accuracy at every stage.
