Advanced Gynecologic Cancer Treatments
We are committed to providing individualized and compassionate care for people with gynecologic cancer. Throughout treatment, we work closely with you and your primary care provider or OB GYN to support clear communication and coordinated care.
If you have been diagnosed with gynecologic cancer, your BIDMC gynecologic cancer care team will develop a personalized treatment plan based on several factors, including:
- Cancer type and stage
- Your health history
- Your personal preferences
- Other details unique to your situation
Your treatment plan may include one or more of the following therapies, depending on your diagnosis and needs:
- Chemotherapy to stop cancer cells from multiplying in the body
- Hormone therapy to block or remove hormones that support cancer growth
- Immunotherapy to boost your immune system defenses against cancer cells
- Radiation therapy to destroy cancer cells and slow or stop their growth
- Surgery to remove cancerous tissue
- Targeted therapy to focus on specific cancer cells or genetic changes
In some cases, radiation therapy may be recommended after surgery or instead of surgery. Radiation Oncologists may also use radiation as a palliative measure to help relieve symptoms and improve quality of life during or after cancer treatment.
