Specialized High-Risk Pregnancy Care

Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) provides advanced obstetrical services to pregnant patients facing serious reproductive challenges and women contemplating pregnancy who have medical conditions, risk factors or family history requiring counseling.

At Exeter Hospital, we provide high-risk obstetric care in collaboration with your obstetrician and other specialists as needed. Services include comprehensive assessment of your clinical diagnosis, family and personal medical history and recommended treatment plan.

Services We Offer

We provide a range of services for women with high-risk pregnancies, including:

  • Consultation with a perinatologist for medical and/or obstetrical conditions such as:
    • Abnormal fetal structure
    • Diabetes
    • Elevated body mass index (BMI) and have risks associated with obesity during pregnancy
    • Multiple pregnancy
    • Patients who have a history of prior preterm delivery, incompetent cervix, pregnancy-induced hypertension, second or third trimester loss or other previous complications
  • Genetic counseling for advanced maternal age, abnormal serum screen (quad screen/AFP), family history of a genetic disorder or drug exposure
  • First trimester screening for potential genetic defects such as Down Syndrome
    • We offer MaterniT21, a cell-free fetal DNA blood test to patients with appropriate indication
  • Level II ultrasound focusing on specific areas of the baby’s anatomy such as brain, heart and other organs that is performed by the perinatologist
  • Amniocentesis (a procedure that screens for chromosome abnormalities, inherited diseases or lung maturity in the fetus)
  • Assisting with scheduling chorionic villi sampling (CVS) procedures or other procedures, if recommended
