Exeter Hospital Announces Sponsorship Role for 2-1-1 Service in New Hampshire

NH Governor John Lynch, at left in picture, thanks Kevin Callahan

for Exeter Hospital's sponsorship of the state's new 2-1-1 program.

Exeter Hospital is one of several major sponsors that has committed to provide financial support for the valuable statewide program, which is being coordinated by the United Ways of New Hampshire, including the United Way of the Greater Seacoast. The 2-1-1 program is an easy to remember telephone number that connects callers, at no cost, to information about health and human services available in their community. It is already in place in 44 states, including Maine, Vermont and Connecticut. By dialing       2-1-1, New Hampshire residents will be connected with a trained information and referral specialist who can provide them with the information they need to get help or give help.

"Exeter Hospital’s commitment to supporting the 2-1-1 program stems from our mission to improve the health of the community by providing both services and information to our residents," said Exeter Hospital President and Chief Executive Officer Kevin J. Callahan. "2-1-1 will connect people across New Hampshire with the services that can help them and their families stay healthy while providing an unparalleled resource to individuals at times of personal crisis."

The New Hampshire 2-1-1 program is being spearheaded by the United Ways of New Hampshire in partnership with Public Service Company of New Hampshire. It is sponsored by Exeter Hospital, Citizens Bank, New Hampshire Charitable Foundation and the State of New Hampshire.

"As one of New Hampshire’s leading regional health care providers, we felt it was a unique opportunity for a public-private partnership and we are excited to be part of this initiative which will have a statewide reach with its ability to help all residents access critical health information," Callahan said. "One of the most important things we can do to help the community is to use our resources to seed collaborations of the kind exemplified in this project, which brought together the United Ways of New Hampshire, Public Service Company of New Hampshire and major sponsors like Exeter Hospital."

The collaborative effort was key to helping the 2-1-1 program reach fruition. "At United Way, we recognize that together we can get results no one could accomplish alone. The 2-1-1 New Hampshire partnership is a great example of our entire state seeing a real benefit from public, private and nonprofit collaboration," said Sue Suter, executive director of the United Way of the Greater Seacoast. "Often, just knowing where to begin to find help is a challenge. Our hope is that with 2-1-1, we can make that first step easier for residents across New Hampshire."

Residents in New Hampshire can contact 2-1-1 NH toll-free by dialing 2-1-1 in state or 1-866-444-4211 from out of state. The central call center for the program is located at the PSNH call center and utilizes a web-based statewide database of resources.
